Elsa Fornero is the Minister of Labour, Social Policies and Equal Opportunities of Italy. She is also Professor of Political Economy at the University of Turin, Faculty of Economics and an international expert on pensions.

She is the author of many publications about public and private pension systems, pension reforms, population aging, households saving, retiring choices and life insurance. Her research has been recently focused on financial literacy and financial education.
In 2011 she was awarded “La Mela d’Oro Prize” about “Women: innovation and human capital” by “Marisa Bellisario Foundation”.
In 2003, jointly with Olivia Mitchell, she was awarded the INA International Prize for the Economics, Finance and Statistics of private insurance by “Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei”.
In 2001, jointly with Ignazio Musu, she received the “Saint Vincent Price for Economics”.
